Charles Allison grew up as the son of an Army chaplain, moving every three years to places all over the world. He found his first musical loves listening to his brother’s new wave records and found punk rock in his teens.  Throughout the years, Charles has continued to expand his musical proclivities beyond any prescribed genre or style.

Charles played in bands growing up but soon realized he wanted to produce more music than he was able to at the mercy of other players' schedules, so Kil Howlie Day was born in 1996. This was primarily a quirky bedroom electronic project that incorporated Matt Turnure on drums and Jeremy Carriger on bass for live shows. Charles started making records under his own name in 2004 with the release of “Braced in the Beams”. In 2006 he went on to collaborate with Asheville music scene staple and owner of “The Grey Eagle”, Brian Landrum, for the album “Some Queer Raincoat”. Charles and Brian recorded their parts for the record separately and mixed the record in Winston Salem at Fidelitorium with Mitch Easter. After a few more solo efforts, Charles formed Land Camera in 2008 with long-time collaborator Callie Harmon on guitar, John Lazenby on bass/keys. In 2009 Land Camera mixed parts of their record “Land Camera I” with John Keane in Athens, GA. Subsequently Charles recorded and mixed the “Land Camera II” EP in 2010. After their demise in 2012, Okinawa became Charles’ primary full-band vehicle with him primarily singing and playing sundry instruments. Charles continues to make music under his own name as well as Okinawa.

Over the years Charles organically began producing records for others and has recorded, mixed and mastered records for hundreds of bands and artists. Charles now works as a freelance recording/mastering engineer and also as an educator in the field of recording. He also is the co-producer of the podcast Sonically Speaking.
